Benteke's all-round display gives Rodgers reason to smile

Brendan Rodgers applauded the commitment of Christian Benteke after Liverpool's mid year marking from Aston Villa scored the main objective in the Monday night triumph over AFC Bournemouth.

Benteke tapped in a Jordan Henderson cross in the 26th moment to give Liverpool a 1-0 win to open his record for the club. Rodgers was satisfied by the Belgian's general commitment, trusting that more will come when Benteke's fellow team members see better what he can do.

"He was a genuine modest bunch today evening time," Rodgers said. "You've seen all aspects of his amusement. His hold-up play is exceptional and he's got a brilliant touch for a major gentleman.

Christian Benteke's physicality at Anfield impressed Brendan Rodgers

"He can help the ball on into ranges, he can take the ball in, control the amusement, switch the diversion, his touch was great and you could see him connecting and consolidating.

"There was one minute when the ball came into the crate, which was one of the reasons we hoped to get him, and as the cross came into the case in light of his quality and force he attempted to reach it yet it dropped and made a chance for Coutinho to shoot.

"In my time here that is never truly happened. The ball's come in and afterward perhaps been gotten out. But since of his physicality and his contact, he keeps the ball alive in the unsafe territory of the field and that will truly offer assistance. Once the players get used to seeing that and working with that, that will offer us more chances to score objectives."

After a baffling season in 2014/15, Rodgers was upbeat to begin the new crusade with two wins, taking after the 1-0 win at Stoke City on the opening weekend, with another clean sheet the good to beat all.

"I''m satisfied we've got two wins, six focuses and two clean sheets," Rodgers said. "Guarded association has been great and that is essential for us.

"There are a considerable measure of new players that have come into the club and it will take them a tad bit of time to bed in. What we're seeing is a character and soul in the group and that will be critical for us.

Manchester United: Louis Van Gaal criticises US tour schedule

New Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has criticised the club's pre-season tour schedule in America.
United play Los Angeles Galaxy in Pasadena on Wednesday, before games in Denver, Washington and Detroit.
Dutchman Van Gaal, 62, blamed "commercial activities" for the amount of travel.
"You have to travel distances, you have to fly a lot, you also have jetlag - that is not very positive for a good preparation," he said.

Manchester United's US Tour

Wednesday July 23: LA Galaxy, Rose Bowl Stadium, Pasadena
Saturday July 26: Roma, Sports Authority Field, Denver - International Champions Cup
Wednesday July 30: Inter Milan, Fedex Field, Washington - International Champions Cup
Saturday August 2: Real Madrid, Michigan Stadium, Detroit - International Champions Cup
His statement contradicted the words of executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward 24 hours earlier, when he insisted the tour - which will see United travel almost 13,500 miles if they reach the final of the International Champions Cup - did not disrupt preparation.
Van Gaal, who met his players for the first time last week after leading the Netherlands to third place at the World Cup, said he was already making his presence felt at the club.
"The tour was already arranged so I have to adapt - and Manchester United shall do everything to adapt to my rules for good preparation," he said.
